This project is an example of the variety of options I can produce when given a subject and a few aesthetic requests. Knowing this would upon publication become a widely viewed story, the client requested a graphic that was tonally appropriate, attention-grabbing, visually urgent, and was a collage of pieces of the story. Below are several versions that I worked on with the client.
I wanted Johnny's humanity to be the first thing that people see, so I tried to make sure his face was central in each piece, but surrounded by the other things. It was a fun challenge to try and artistically capture a crucial moment in a man's life using only two photographs and dozens of documents.
NOTE: Photo grid contains high resolution photos and may take a minute to load.
These three are the ones the client ended up selecting:
Although these didn't end up in publication, they are two of my favorites.
You can see the varied illustrations and read the accompanying stories below, as well as a reel from a FI influencer which featured the story and the graphic as his background.
